Dynamic visuals celebrate the breadth and history of Canada’s role as a leader in health-related research and innovation in space. Visitors explore the effects of gravity, radiation and isolation on the human body, and learn about the latest Canadian astronaut to travel to the International Space Station: Dr. David Saint-Jaques. Through interactives like the Disorientation Simulator, artifacts like the intriguing Space Physiology Sled and compelling first-hand accounts of everything from vision issues to radiation experiments to bone loss, Health in Space leaves visitors with a greater understanding of the effects of this extreme environment, and the importance of Canada’s role for both the future of space exploration, and medical advancements on Earth. A companion travelling exhibit, also designed by the W3 team, will tour the country for 3-5 years starting in summer 2019.
